Activities for a romantic weekend
Discovering Prague as a couple is always a great idea. Prague’s many romantic spots make it the perfect place for a short break to spend some quality time as a couple. It is an enchanting destination with Gothic and Baroque architecture, narrow streets and medieval charm. There is romance to be found in just about every corner of this city. A horse-drawn carriage ride through Prague’s Old Town with a coachman in a period outfit is a truly fairytale experience. But on top of that, there are plenty of other activities that you can do with your loved one.
TRAVEL TIPS FOR A ROMANTIC WEEKEND AWAY
Whether you plan well in advance or decide on the spur of the moment – Prague is always worth a trip for couples. Our tip: Start off your short trip in a relaxed way by taking the train to Prague and back. From Munich, Regensburg or Nuremberg, the Czech capital is just a stone’s throw away, and you can get in the mood for your romantic weekend in Prague with a glass of Prosecco on the way.
If you prefer to be on the water rather than on land, you can book one of the many cruises on the Vltava River. From the boat you can admire the riverbank with its stunning Gothic architecture and see the many bridges that connect Prague’s Old Town to the Lesser Town. One of the highlights of a cruise on the Vltava, the longest river in the Czech Republic, is of course the view of Charles Bridge, built in the 14th century and one of Prague’s landmarks.
Strolling around Prague away from the crowds is a great way to explore the city at your own pace. Why not take a stroll with your loved one through the picturesque gardens of Prague Castle or visit Petřín Hill for some peace and quiet away from the crowds. It is not for nothing that the hill is a popular meeting place for couples in love. A short cable car ride takes you comfortably to your destination, where you can enjoy beautiful views of Prague and spend time in the famous gardens.
After an exciting day of activities and sightseeing, why not treat yourself to some culinary delights? Besides, as we all know, the way to the heart is through the stomach. Recharge your batteries with a tempting slice of cake and a cup of coffee in one of the city’s traditional coffee houses. For those with a bigger appetite, there are plenty of restaurants serving excellent Czech and international cuisine. To bring the day to a fitting close, you can treat your taste buds to a romantic candlelit dinner.
As romantic as it gets: What could be better than sealing a romantic getaway with a token of your love? Only about 500 metres from the Charles Bridge, in the Lesser Town of Prague, there is a small bridge leading to the island of Kampa which is also known as the Bridge of Lovers. The name comes from the fact that couples hang an engraved padlock, called a love lock, as a token of their love, and then throw the key into the water as a pledge of eternal love. Perhaps this is a custom that appeals to you, as well?
